7 Simple Ways to Make your Bedroom the best room in the house

It’s understandable - you’ve got the most comfortable mattress in the world and you want to spend as much time as possible with it. Gone are the days when the couch is your sanctuary, and you might as well say goodbye to arm chairs and bean bags, because now it’s all about the mattress. With that in mind, you’ve got to turn your bedroom into a sweet hideout. Here are 7 easy ways to turn your bedroom into the best room in the house.

1. Lighting

It’s important to have different levels of light in your bedroom. Ideally, natural light is best but if natural light isn’t sufficient, make sure your room is well lit without being over-lit. What’s just as important is to have specialized lights for reading and if you’re lucky, a dimmer for those special times (bow-wow!). When it comes time for bed, make sure your room is dark (if there’s streetlights or you sleep during the day, thick curtains may be required.

2. Add things that make you happy

You don’t want your room to be cluttered, but you also want to look around your room and be relaxed and maybe even a little nostalgic. If there’s something ornamental that you like, put it on display. The point is to make your room a relaxing place to be, so fill it with things that make you relaxed - stereo, books, whatever that means to you.

3. Keep your wardrobe neat and your room will follow

It’s easy to leave your clothes on the floor, but it’s just as easy to put them away. Seriously people, it takes less than 5 seconds. If your wardrobe or closet is neat and organized then it will make this process so much easier. That way even if the rest of the house is a mess, you can always go to your happy room and find it neat and tidy.

4. Less is more

Less furniture, less clutter. That might mean just having a bed, bedside tables and small shelf - possibly even less. The point is that you don't want to feel claustrophobic and having less furniture will create more space and hey, who doesn’t like more space? If you don’t like space, stack your room with as much furniture as possible and you’ll have your Xanadu.

5. Your Bed is the Centre of the Universe

And the universe is your bedroom. The place where every kind of fun goes down should be held in high regard. Mattresses are like sexy Italians, you don’t want them to feel left out - as relaxing as Italians can be, they can have a fiery temper if not given enough attention!

6. Paint

A new coat of paint can make a room look completely different. The walls may look white, but in the words of The Twelfth Man, there’s “cream, bone, white, off white, ivory and beige”. A fresh lick of paint can give the room new life, and it doesn’t have to be white - it can be any color. I once had a yellow room.

7. Change is as good as a hotel room

If you can, try shifting the furniture around. It’s fun to plan and change it up every now and then and makes your room feel fresh and new. Plus, there’s only so much you can take of staring at a particular wall or portion of the roof. Some of other portions are equally as exhilarating and if you’re selling yourself short if you don’t experience them once in your life.
